The birth of the idea of Respray

Andor and Gergő were classmates in high school and share a passion for the environment and entrepreneurship. During one of their friendly conversations, they discovered the problem of recycling aerosol products. They were keen to find a solution to this problem that would not only make the aerosol industry more sustainable, but also provide a commercially viable opportunity for companies producing these products. This is how the founders came up with the idea of refilling spray deos which lead to the name Respray.

Respray Solutions Kft. is officially established

After an exciting summer, Respray Solutions Kft. is officially established! Then the team, together with investors (Hiventures, Startup Campus), could start the development process. As a second-year university student, the founding team had a lot to learn about the ins and outs of hardware development, but thanks to the help of external engineers, the first prototype designs and implementation plans were quickly outlined.

First prototype

After six months of development and design, the first machine was built, which was able to refill spray bottles several times. With this machine, the concept and technology was simulated, but many features were still missing to enable customers to refill spray deodorant products in a consumer environment. After a lot of testing, the team collected and defined these features and started preparing the next version.

The world's first spray deodorant Refill Station

Complemented by a super team of software developers, the next version of the Refill Station was realized in about a year. It's the world's first spray deodorant refill station, allowing users to refill their own aerosol cans in a customer environment. But before customers could try it out, there was still a lot of testing to be done. The team wanted to give users the best refilling experience possible, so they worked night and day to perfect the station's various functions.

Testing compact Refill technology at LUPA beach

Joint opening of Rossmann x Respray, first refill station deployment

The story of Respray

After 3 years of hard work and dedication, the Respray project has been launched in partnership with Rossmann Hungary. The world's first deodorant refill station has been installed in the Auchan Korzó Rossmann store in Budaörs. The launch was celebrated with an opening event.

Speeches were given by László Flórián, Managing Director of Rossmann Hungary, and the Respray team. There was a roundtable discussion on sustainability, with the participation of several influencers, actors and singers. In addition, participants were able to take part in a number of activities. There was a sustainability-themed photo wall, and a smoothie-making bike to make smoothies with energy produced by the participants themselves. There was also a chance to try out VR games to solve sustainability problems. Of course customers could try out the Refill Station, choosing from the world's first three refillable spray deodorant fragrances (ISANA Blossom, ISANA Aloe Vera, ISANA Cosmic Breeze).

Thanks to the very large number of guests, the project had a good debut, as László Flórián underlined in his speech:
"It is a matter of pride and a great milestone for us that the world's only deodorant refill station will soon be installed in our store. Respray Solutions is a great team and a pleasure to support, but this machine also serves our own sustainability efforts. We will work on encouraging our customers to use it as much as possible."

Further development and preparing for expansion

Our Refill Stations are now available at three locations. Following the Auchan Korzó in Budaörs, we installed our stations in Mammut II and then in the Florián shopping centre. This marked the beginning of the test period. During the pilot, technology, customer feedback and the business model is tested. As this test period was highly successful, the Respray team could grow organically and involve more talent. We are working together on bringing this innovative solution to as many retail locations and countries as possible, with even more scents to achieve the most positive impact on the cosmetics industry!
